AIPP members were emailed regarding a proposal to photograph over 5,000 World War II Veterans to create an archive of the ageing men and women who served during WWII for all Australians. The archive will be stored at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
"Reflections," was the name given to the project, the team at Imajenit where excited to photograph these tremendous WWII veterans. We generally travelled around our immediate region photographing veterans for the project and listened to the astounding stories they shared with us. This would have to be the most memorable moment of our photographic career so far and something we will treasure forever more.
Our last veteran was from Brewarrina and was then living at a nursing home in Walgett, some 8 hours or more return trip from Dubbo. We decided to fly to Walgett in a little Jabiru plane where we were picked up by the veterans family. We spent quite a few hours with the veteran and his family. It was a wonderful experience. Our veteran on that day was a WWII Spitfire pilot and boy did he have some stories to tell.
We are so very proud to be involved with the AIPP and the Reflections project.
